A Quiet Morning

I had no trouble getting up early today. But even though I was up, I was kind of useless. I'm walking towards my kayak and thinking, Can someone sleep and walk at the same time, I feel so tired.

Quiet, cloudy morning in the marina, you can hear a pin drop this early. While I am puttering around in the middle of the channel, I hear a big but gentle swoosh. The water around me has hundreds of ripples. It's hard to see through the dark green water but one of them turns its belly sideways revealing its identity - it's a 10 inch (25 cm) silver fish. This is an entire school. They keep coming back up, barely breaking the water surface and then just as quickly diving under. It's not unusual to see a single fish jump but it's wonderful when there are so many and you are in the middle of it.

Along with me, someone else is watching the magic unfold. Suddenly there's a huge splash. I look behind and see a pelican swallowing his breakfast. :)
