The Milky Way

Most of us live in big cities with a lot of light pollution making stargazing impossible. If you've never seen our galaxy at night, Terje Sorgjerd's time-lapse piece, shot with a 5D will surprise you.

Speaking of stars, I remember a night many years ago in a small coastal town, when I unwittingly stepped into a meteor shower. It was a warm summer night, I had gone out onto the balcony for some air. I thought I was dreaming when the first shooting star streaked across the navy sky. Within a minute, another followed and another..and... It was magical.

In the same town, a large octopus had taken up residence under a rock in the deeper waters of the calm, crystal clear sea. Those of us who knew kept quiet because we didn't want the local restaurant owner to get any ideas for his appetizer menu. Whenever I went out for a swim, I'd take a look to see if he moved. Octopus are shy creatures and for the most part not dangerous. He'd always leave one of his arms outside. Maybe that was his favorite resting position, one tentacle out, the rest of him tucked under the rock, his pillow.
